Travel Nurse Across America Sending Nurses to Africa on a Mission of Mercy
LITTLE ROCK, Arkansas (May, 2014) – As part of its ongoing philanthropic activities, Travel Nurse Across America (TNAA) is partnering with Mercy Ships by sponsoring four nurses to volunteer on a healthcare delivery mission in Africa. Mercy Ships, a global charity organization, uses ships – floating hospitals – to provide free surgery and dental care in impoverished countries. Mercy Ships has been in operation since 1978. The nurses sponsored by TNAA will work for eight weeks each, starting late this summer, on the African Mercy ship that will be docked in Cotonou, Benin.
“We are honored to be able to sponsor registered nurses to help provide care for some of the neediest people in the world,” said Gene Scott, President and CEO of Travel Nurse Across American. “Mercy Ship’s values – faith, compassion, integrity, and quality – are consistent with those of our company. Many of our traveling nurses already do volunteer work. Some have expressed a desire to do mission trips, but out-of-pocket costs are significant. We’re happy to be able to provide these sponsorships,” said Scott.
Travel Nurse Across America is accepting applications for these assignments now. Nurses who are selected will have all of their costs covered for eight-week assignments that will be available from August 2014 through May 2015. Mercy Ships needs nurses who specialize in pediatrics, intensive care, and surgery. Eligibility information is available on the TNAA website (https://www.nurse.tv). Among other requirements, nurses will be asked to keep an online journal or blog and share photos to document their trip and experience. “These assignments have the potential to change lives, both of the nurses and the patients they’ll be caring for,” said Scott.
